Supercardioid Condenser Microphone
Characterization
The F.20 is a characteristic FET condenser microphone with a determined Cardioid pickup composition model on.
The proprietary cut off-amp periphery, designated “HR-2295,” is a low-babel, transformerless style. It was designed with inputs from the primary CAD Equitek engineering link up, and Fred Cameron’s legacy of sharp-end microphone amplifier designs. We wish to promulgate more message about this amplifier orbit in the close coming.
The mic uses a 24mm electret (unendingly-polarized) condenser capsule with a 20mm diaphragm made of gold-sputtered 6-micron Mylar. The diaphragm is center-terminated.
Two microswitches on the microphone remains optionally approve a pad (-16dB) and/or a dear-behind the times riddle (-12dB/octave @ 80Hz).
At 52.5 mV/Pa, the F.20 is among the highest-irritability, highest-generate microphones we have seen. One sake to this draw is that very but preamp approach is needed, which means the consumer want not initiate in a considerable-end preamp to get acceptable use from this microphone.
The microphone’s stated self-cacophony height is 11dBA, which, unusually, was intentional with the capsule engaged to the amplifier pale. The self-shivaree of the amplifier, once unconnected, would tenable be even humble. All things the foremost kindliness, the crap ruction on of this microphone is trifling.
The mic is mounted within a rubber eyelet suspended within a yoke mount, facilitating employment in any desired outlook.
Equation Audio first announced the V.20 in 2006, produced prototypes for testing in 2007, and began fabrication in 2008.
The F.20 ships with its shockmount and a metal-web pop run (with gooseneck arm) in a foam-lined “Fender tweed” gig bag.
The Equation Audio F.20 is also known as: F-20.
The mic was released in 2006.
