When it began nearly 25 years ago, the annual South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Talk and Festival down in Austin, Texas was pretty much an industry-only occurrence, with bands and publicists and journalists and other music biz types gorging on BBQ, getting shitfaced ebriose, hooking up, and making deals (like pretty much every other colloquy you can think of). Oh, and listening to lots of great music (and some not-so-critical music) from new bands hoping to get signed, or veteran bands hoping to revitalize their careers.

As the years have gone by, though, SXSW — having added veil and interactive elements along with the music –  has turned into one of the countryside’s premier festivals, open and welcoming to fair much anyone who can swing the fairly high registration costs (and airfare/hotels/etc.). Aside from the hundreds, doubtlessly thousands, of bands from all over the world playing every sized venue in hamlet (plus back alleys, parking lots, and inside dumpsters), there’s always lots of panel discussions for folks interested in information how artists are rolling with the changes, and how the music industry is evolving (or, in some cases, dispiriting to stave off utter collapse). Today, SXSW announced the first complete of guest speakers and panelists for next month’s fest (Walk 12th-21st), and there’s some pretty cool names in the bunch:
