:Sometimes it is repository to say that "Change is not what it's cracked up to be." But you cannot say that this year when you are talking about The American Antiques Show. A new bewilder plan gave it a real shot in the arm this time around and won husky approval from both the participating exhibitors and the general public. The show, run annually during Americana Week in New York Borough, benefits the American Folk Art Museum.

Ned Jalbert, an intimate designer with offices in Westborough and Nantucket, Mass., and a four-year exhibitor at TAAS, volunteered to reshape the show and initially submitted three planking plans to the show committee for inspection. "We picked one and then went to vocation fine-tuning it and adapting it to some of the particular needs of the dealers," Karen DiSaia, show administrator, said.

"Most shows, with the dealers all lined up in rows, makes me pet as if I am strolling through the San Diego Zoo, and I don't like that," Ned said. In his new design, take aim lines were important, aisles were wider, color zones were created, an awning spanned the entr, and food and drink were moved off the exhibition floor, thus eliminating a choice of smells. Every dealer was also offered the opportunity to feature an phenomenon on a poster that was hung in the expanded entrance to the show, giving visitors a private showing of what was being offered inside.

Jan. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Hermann Goering coveted it. Adolf Hitler purchased it. Now the heirs of the man who sold it to him penury the Vermeer painting back from a museum in Vienna.

“The Art of Painting” is the most valuable painting in Vienna’s custom collections and the only work by Johannes Vermeer in Austria. It’s housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum , where an display on the history, restoration and content of the picture opened yesterday.

The show coincides with a guidance-sponsored inquiry into whether Hitler’s acquisition amounted to a “sale under imprisonment” and the painting should be returned to the heirs of the seller. The heirs say Jaromir Czernin, who fini 15 years in lawsuits to get it back after World War II and lost, had no determination but to sell it as his family was under threat.

“I am pretty sure the Republic of Austria will give this carbon copy back,” said Andreas Theiss, senior participant at Wolf Theiss , the law firm representing the heirs.
